Introducing Regent Square Chiropractors,

Chiropractic for colds and the flu? Simply put, I was incredulous. What could "cracking" bones possibly have to do improved health? I had been browsing through some informational pamphlets on display while waiting for my brother to be seen by the chiropractor. He had thrown his back "out," was in excruciating pain and had, as a last resort, decided to follow his friends' advice to see a chiropractor. While in the waiting room, I continued to scan the pamphlet with its ambiguous terms and graphics, wondering still why someone with the title of "doctor" would not only write something so crazy but also put it out on display. If regular chiropractic care could somehow improve my health and help keep me from getting sick, why hadn't I heard of it before? I thought getting sick meant you needed a doctor and medicine. Right? Well, not exactly.
My incredulous attitude became more that of intrigue and the next time I had those horrible pains in my legs, the same ones that had plagued me for all of my childhood, I took my brothers' chiropractor up on his offer for a free visit. I was in pain so I figured it was worth the try. And let me tell you how absolutely astonished I was when I got up off the adjusting table. The pain was GONE. Not diminished or lessened. Completely GONE!!! It usually took weeks for the pain to diminish on its own, and never completely at that, and one visit took it away completely. I was so excited I forgot to ask about the chiropractic and colds thing.
As a pre-med college student with never enough time or money, I never went back. And my questions of the value of chiropractic beyond aches and pains still went unanswered. I wish that I knew then what I know now.
I guess my intrigue paved my journey to becoming a chiropractor. I began to research literature about alternative health care and preventive measures in health and was soon sold on the idea of holistic health (looking at the body as a whole and understanding that what affects one system or organ will affect all the rest). I decided to chuck the idea of becoming an MD because I wanted to help people help themselves to a fuller and more fulfilling lifestyle. I saw in the literature, plain as day, how the "health care system" in our country is mostly just sick care. I found the idea that the body is a self regulating and self healing organism was difficult to explain to others. My personal studies in herbology, iridology, and holistic nutrition fascinated me. I finally decided that more education would give me a more complete outlook. Yet still, upon finishing my chiropractic prerequisites, I was unsure that it was really the profession I wanted to pursue. It wasn't until I became a full time grad student in chiropractic school that I finally got under regular chiropractic care and understood the chiropractic wellness paradigm. I never had problems with the pains in my legs anymore. My seasonal allergies disappeared. My monthly headaches did too. So did my overwhelming gotta-take-a-sick-day-and-go-home menstrual cramps. And, lo and behold, I could see that my overall health improved... and I got sick LESS than ever before. Shortly after starting my internship, my husband and I discovered we were pregnant. I cannot IMAGINE pregnancy in the absence of chiropractic. Not only did the adjustments make the entire experience more comfortable, it ensured that my baby did not experience the detrimental effects of intrauterine constraint and promoted a healthier and safer birth as well. In the process, I discovered my professional passion: pregnant moms and pediatrics. Both Dr. Chris and I are certified in Pregnancy and Infancy care with the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and are working towards a diplomate in the same field. What we have discovered is that spinal health begins in the womb. Birth, even "natural" birth, is a traumatic event for the spine. So many issues are prevented with prompt and gentle chiropractic adjustments at birth and infancy. Both our children have been adjusted since conception (yes, conception) and have experienced excellent health in their lives.
Dr. Monique did her undergraduate work at Cedarville University, Edinboro University, and Life University. Between semesters she also spent time in Provo, Utah studying at The School of Natural Healing and receiving certification sponsored by the International Institute of Holistic Iridology. She completed her chiropractic studies, Cum Laude, at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

I discovered chiropractic by accident. After hurting my low back while playing high school football, it seemed like going to a chiropractor was the obvious thing to do. One of the guys on the team recommended a doctor and though I was skeptical at first, I figured it was worth a try. Little did I know it would end up changing my entire life. The chiropractor I saw suggested I look more closely at the career opportunity of the chiropractic profession.
I had always known I would become a healthcare professional. I love to help people and have always been fascinated with how the human body works. After experiencing chiropractic care for myself, I knew it was what I wanted to do with my future. Not only did the adjustments feel great, but shortly after getting under care, my asthma, which I had suffered from for over ten years, had all but vanished. In addition, I no longer needed the glasses I had worn since the second grade. Each visit the Doctor explained more and more about vitalistic health and chiropractic as a means of wellness. I knew I wanted to help others heal just as I was helped. I also began to understand that chiropractic offered a way to keep people truly healthy in a world that is so sick conscious, a world where it seems new diseases are discovered everyday.
I have been to several different chiropractors since that first exposure to chiropractic. I have experienced various forms of adjusting and have made the point to always use the most comfortable technique on our patients. This comfort is the result of very specific adjusting techniques. We know that it is relatively easy to get a back to "pop" but that sound is not an indication that an adjustment took place. Chiropractors are the only health professionals who are experts in locating, analyzing and correcting vertebral subluxations. That means we will adjust the problem specifically and that's what corrects the interference to the nervous system and allows your body to heal.
Academic Achievements
Because of his outstanding academic achievements, Dr. Christopher was accepted to join the accelerated program of pre-chiropractic studies sponsored through Sherman College, where he also went on to complete his chiropractic degree, Magna Cum Laude.
Both doctors are enrolled in the Prenatal and Pediatrics diplomate program through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
Our Practice Philosphy and Care Objectives
We want to see you not only get out of pain, but to also discover chiropractic as a means to achieve your health and wellness goals. We are honored by each and every patient that chooses to give us the opportunity to show them the path to health that took us so many years to learn. "Doctor" means teacher, and we place the highest priority on explaining and demonstrating those principles of wellness to each person who comes to us. Our children are a part of our practice and we call them our "happy healers." They contribute so much life and character to our office atmosphere. They are a prime example of what we are accomplishing here on a daily basis. Health problems of any sort cause such strain on the family unit. The most moving, soul-satisfying and deeply fulfilling aspect of our practice is when we witness how chiropractic care actually relieves those intangible strains and leads families to experience life more fully.
A Little About Us Personally
Though chiropractic is our passion, we share many interests outside of the professional arena. These include various cooking styles (holistic, vegetarian, and gourmet), gardening, music, and spiritual connection. We include our children in most of our daily tasks both at home and at the office because we believe that children learn best by being involved and included. Variety is the spice of life and we prefer their minds be cultivated by interacting with people of all ages rather than only peers in a daycare setting.
Dr. Christopher is an avid guitarist and enjoys playing various genres including blues, folk, and eclectic styles. He's also a drummer, and has taught himself to play the piano and harmonica. He bikes the trails of Frick Park frequently and hikes them with the children. He also actually enjoys fixing things around the home and office.
Dr. Monique enjoys the fiber arts, in particular, knitting with wool fibers spun from all around the world. She taught herself to read knitting patterns and is always looking for a particularly challenging (and beautiful) project. She is also an accomplished scrapbooker and continues to creatively celebrate family memories by attending a monthly scrapbooking group. They are also, as a family, actively involved in their church, and have a passion for serving their fellow humankind.
Our Health Habits
Good nutrition, proper exercise, and a good attitude are a huge part of our healthstyle as a family. We take those good health habits a step further with regular chiropractic care for ourselves. We check each other and our children at least once a week, sometimes more, depending on their activities and/or stress levels. There is a difference between a check and an adjustment and we never adjust a spine if the check tells us it is balanced. (If a bone is subluxated and needs to be adjusted, it short-circuits the neurology and shows up as an imbalance in the musculoskeletal system.) Our kids like it so much that whenever they see an adjusting table they climb up right away and lay down. You'll probably see us running, biking, or walking in Frick Park several times a week. We also play soccer on a weekly basis. Our family understands that our bodies are made with the capability to heal and we always try less invasive, natural methods in those times when we need a little more support. We believe in gentle, natural birth and both our children were born at home. They are living testimonies that the Power that makes the body heals the body. Our children have always been and continue to be our most precious achievements. There is nothing we enjoy more than strolling through the wooded trails of Frick Park together, looking for bugs under rocks, smelling flowers, and enjoying the wonders of nature as it captures our children's imaginations.
